Annual Friends of the Princeton Public Library Book Sale Kicks Off

The community room Thursday

Local bibliophiles, rejoice! The annual Friends of the Princeton Public Library book sale kicks off today.

More than a dozen volunteers have spent the last few days organizing books in preparation for crowds of local book lovers who will visit this weekend in search of a good find.

This year’s sale includes books in the fields of economics and psychology donated by Nobel Laureate in economics Daniel Kahneman, vintage children’s book, old and unusual volumes dating to the 18th century, and vintage and first-edition volumes.

Over the years, the event has grown into one of the biggest sales of used books in the region. It has also grown physically, spilling out of the library’s community room and into a tent on Hinds Plaza.

The annual sale, along with proceeds from the Friends bookstore, raises tens of thousands of dollars each year to help the library purchase new materials for its collection.

The book sale schedule is as follows:

– The preview sale is from 10 a.m.-noon is $10 (free for friends of the library). Numbered tickets for the preview go on sale at 9 a.m.

– The regular sale runs from noon-5:30 p.m. today and admission is free.

– Saturday hours are 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

– Sunday hours are from 1-5 p.m., half price, with bag sale from 3-5 p.m. Fill a paper supermarket bag for $5.

As an added bonus this year, the Friends have teamed with the Princeton Environmental Film Festival organizers to bring a document shredding truck back to library on Saturday from 1-4 p.m. So before you come to shop the annual sale, you can clear a little shelf space by bringing those unneeded documents to the library for shredding.

Friends book sale co-chair Sherri Garber sets up for the sale.
