Hun School of Princeton to Build New Academic Building

The Hun School of Princeton is planning to add a new building to its campus to promote global programs.

“We’ve recently developed a curriculum in global studies, and the classrooms in the new building will be constructed with the ability to connect with sister schools around the world,” said Michael Chaykowsky, Hun’s director of facilities. ” The new building will promote the theme of global citizenship that we want to introduce to our students.  It will also keep us competitive with other independents schools in the area.”

The building, called the Global Commons Residence Life Building, will be located adjacent to Carter Hall and will require the removal of three tennis courts. The building will include an activity center, a book store, a mail center, two classrooms and 56 beds for residential students, including international students. The school plans to reorient some existing tennis courts and add a new one, for a total of six tennis courts on campus. There are eight courts now.

Lawyer Richard Goldman of Drinker, Biddle & Reath, the firm representing Hun, said the school will try to meet LEED silver environmental standards for the project. The local environmental commission asked the school to look into adding solar panels to the roofs, but Goldman said it would not be economical. Goldman said the building will include green features like low-water-use fixtures.

The school received spprovals for the project at a recent meeting of the Regional Planning Board of Princeton.
