Police: No New Developments in Carnegie Lake Search

Emergency workers continued their search of Lake Carnegie Wednesday in response to reports the previous evening that a man was spotted in the water. As of Thursday afternoon, the case remained open and police said it would continue to remain open until all investigative leads have been exhausted.

Members of the Princeton First Aid Squad and Township Police continued the search for about three hours on Wednesday.  No additional searches are planned, but police said that could change if any new information is gathered that would warrant  a search.

Princeton Township Police received a call Tuesday at about 4:55 p.m. from a motorist who reported spotting a person in Lake Carnegie just off the Harrison Street Bridge.

The caller described the person in the water as a white male with long, dark hair, who was wearing dark clothing. Township patrols, the Princeton First Aid and Rescue Squad and the Princeton Fire Department were dispatched to the scene. Emergency workers were unable to locate anyone in the water, police said. Additional assistance was requested from the Trenton Fire Department Dive Team, which included units from the Prospect Heights Fire Department. Cranbury First Aid also responded to the scene.

After an extensive search of the water surrounding the bridge area, rescuers were unable to locate anyone. Visibility was low due to rain and a heavy fog. The search and rescue effort was stopped at about  8:30 p.m. due to deteriorating weather conditions and out of safety concerns for the rescuers involved, police said.

Anyone with information should contact the Princeton Township Police Department at (609) 921-2100.
