Princeton YMCA Suffers Significant Water Damage

The YMCA Princeton has sustained significant water damage on the lower level of the athletic building because of Hurricane Sandy. YMCA CEO Kate Bech told members in an email today that it will be some time before the YMCA can use the space again because of the damage.

Power still has not been restored to the YMCA Princeton and the YWCA, making the clean up effort more challenging.

“Earlier this afternoon I walked through the YMCA YWCA building.  Unfortunately we still have no power so it was difficult to see in the dark, but the good news is that our facilities team has been successful in removing the water — and the clean up can soon begin in earnest, once we have full power and resources,” Bech wrote in an email to members.

Bech said in the coming days the full extent of the damage will be assessed and a plan of action to rebuild will be developed with the volunteer leadership at the YMCA. Details about how the public can help will be provided later, Bech said.

“Also, as soon as we are able, we will make our showers available to our neighbors in need, and resume our programs and activities where we can,” she wrote.
