Province Line Bridge Reopened to Non-Vehicular Traffic

The bridge carrying Province Line Road over Stony Brook, which has been closed to vehicular traffic since 1981 but used by pedestrians and bicyclists, was reopened to non-vehicular traffic on Nov. 16 after Mercer County completed rehabilitation work.

The bridge is located between Pretty Brook Road in Princeton and Rosedale Road in Lawrence. The original bridge was built in 1903 and was deemed structurally deficient when closed to traffic in 1981.

Rehabilitation work, which was begun by the county in June, included the removal and replacement of the timber wood deck, the repair of the substructure,  the rehabilitation of the wing wall, the painting of the trusses and floor beams, and the rehabilitation of the steel trusses. The structure is 14 feet wide between trusses and its overall length is 139 feet 6 inches.

The project was funded by Mercer County and completed by the Mercer County bridge division.
