Princeton University Promotes Mayor’s Spouse, Eight Other Faculty Members to Full Professorships

Princeton University has announced promotions and other personnel changes that were recently approved by the school’s board of trustees, including the promotion of nine faculty members to full professorships and four faculty members to the rank of associate professor. Such promotions normally include a salary increase that can sometimes be substantial.

Kenneth Norman, the husband of new mayor Liz Lempert, has been promoted to a full professorship in psychology and the Princeton Neuroscience Institute.  Other promotions to full professorship include: Craig Arnold, mechanical and aerospace engineering; Matthew Botvinick, psychology and the Princeton Neuroscience Institute; Christina Imal, politics and Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs; Sara-Jane Leslie, philosophy; Pedro Meira Monteiro, Spanish and Portuguese languages and cultures; Tali Mendelberg, politics; Amit Singer, mathematics and applied and computational mathematics; and Susan Wheeler, creative writing and the Lewis Center for the Arts.

Associate professor promotions: Susana Draper, comparative literature; Chika Okeke-Agulu, art and archeology and African American studies; Bhavani Raman, history; Joshua Shaevitz, physics and the Lewis-Sigler Institute for Integrative Genomics. Assistant professor promotions: Tasho Statev Kaletha, mathematics; Luc Nguyen, mathematics.

The promotions are effective July 1.

Seven faculty members have been named to endowed professorships: Sun-Yung Alice Chang, the Henry Burchard Fine Professor of Mathematics and Eugene Higgins Professor of Mathematics; Alexandru Ionescu, the Thomas D. Jones Professor of Mathematical Physics; Yiguang Ju, the Robert Porter Patterson Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering; Yueh Lin Loo, the Theodora D. ’78 and William H. Walton III ’74 Professor in Engineering; Robert Schapire, the David M. Siegel ’83 Professor in Computer Science; Paul Seymour, the Henry Burchard Fine Professor of Mathematics; James Sturm, the Stephen R. Forrest Professor in Electrical Engineering.

Nine faculty members have resigned, including Devah Pager, professor of sociology and public affairs, who has accepted a position at Harvard University. Daniela Campello Da Costa Ribeiro, assistant professor of politics and international affairs, has accepted a position at the Getulio Vargas Foundation in Brazil. Mariana Candido, assistant professor of history, has taken a position at the University of Kansas. Christiane Frey, assistant professor in German, has taken a position at New York University. Liora Halperin, assistant professor in Near Eastern studies, has accepted a position at the University of Colorado-Boulder. Amy Lerman, assistant professor of politics and public affairs, has accepted a position at the University of California-Berkeley. Andriy Norets, assistant professor in economics, will teach at the University of Illinois. Micah Warren, assistant professor in mathematics, has accepted a position at the University of Oregon. Anna Zayaruzny, assistant professor in music, will teach at Yale University.
