Dog Reunited with Owner After 17 Months with Help of West Windsor Police

wesleyMyra Cruz thought someone was playing an April Fool’s Day prank on her yesterday when she received a message that her dog, Wesley, had been found.

Wesley, a yellow Labrador retriever, had been missing from Hillsborough for 17 months.

Just after 7 a.m. yesterday, West Windsor Police Officer Lee Brodowski was dispatched to the Manor Ridge area after the police department received a report that there was a dog wandering around.

“He retrieved a very friendly and very large Labrador,” Lt. Robert Garofalo said in a news release about the dog. “The dog jumped right into the back of his patrol car and was more than happy to go for a ride.”

The dog was transported to Weber’s Boarding Facility, where his microchip was identified. The owner, Myra Cruz, was contacted. She thought the call was a prank because her dog had been missing since November of 2012.

“Dispatcher Fountain assured her it was not a prank,” Garofalo said. “The entire Cruz family made the trek immediately from Hillsborough to West Windsor Police Headquarters.”

Miguel and Myra Cruz, along with their son, met Wesley in the lobby of Police Headquarters.

“Wesley was clearly happy to be back with his family,” Garofalo said.
