Mercer County Man Seriously Injured in South Brunswick Crash

sbaccident2A 30-year-old Mercer County man was seriously injured in a two vehicle crash Monday afternoon in South Brunswick, police said.

At 4:25 p.m. yesterday, South Brunswick Police responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Herrod Boulevard and Stults Road. The crash took place when the 30-year-old, who was driving a 1997 Toyota south on Herrod Boulevard, was struck by a 2014 Chrysler minivan headed west on Stults Road that was driven by a 45-year-old man from Indianapolis, Indiana. The crash forced both vehicles off the road and onto the lawn of the Coaster Corporation.

sbaccidentThe Mercer County man was trapped in his vehicle for 30 minutes while members of the Monmouth Junction Fire Department worked to free him. Firefighters had to cut the roof and a door off to free him. South Brunswick EMS and paramedics treated the victim at the scene. The New Jersey State Police medevac landed at the crash location and transported the man to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. Police have not released the identity of the man.

sbaccident1The crash is under investigation by South Brunswick Traffic Safety Bureau Officer Frank Mongalieri. Traffic was diverted from the accident scene for over an hour which caused extensive delays near Exit 8A of the New Jersey Turnpike.
