Breaking News: Small School Bus Involved in Crash on Route 206 in Princeton

princetonpolice_2A small school bus was involved in a serious crash on Route 206 north of Hutchinson Road this afternoon.

A 2001 BMW 328I was traveling north on Route 206 just south of Hutchinson Drive when its front end struck the left front bumper of a Rick Bus Co. bus, traveling south.

The bus flipped over onto its right side and the BMW spun around, sustaining heavy front end damage.  The bus also sustained heavy damage to its left front side.

The bus driver, Veronica McKinney, 44, or Trenton was alert and conscious upon arrival of emergency personnel.  She was transported to University Medical Center at Plainsboro for medical care.  Her injuries were non-life threatening.

The bus passengers — a 16-year-old and a teacher’s aid, Geneva Smith, 71, were alert and conscious upon arrival of emergency personnel.  They were transported to University Medical Center at Plainboro by ambulance.  Their injuries were non-life threatening.

The driver of the BMW, Justin Thomas, 26, or Morris Plains, walked away from the BMW, and was alert and conscious upon arrival of emergency personnel.  He was transported by ambulance to Capital Health Systems at Fuld for medical care.  His injuries were non-life threatening.

The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Serious Collision Unit is assisting the Princeton Police Department with the investigation.  No summonses have been issued so far and the investigation is continuing.

State Highway 206 was closed to traffic between Lovers Lane Province Line Road during the investigation. No one had to be extricated from the vehicles, police said.

  • A version of this with larger buses is an inevitability in downtown Princeton. The lanes aren’t wide enough with parked cars present for buses to travel down Nassau over by Pine or Chestnut without crossing the double-yellow line and veering into oncoming traffic. It happens nearly every single time one drives through.
