Transit Information, Closings and Cancellations for Tuesday, Jan. 27

StormTotalSnowRangeAbout 14 to 18 inches of snow is expected for the Central New Jersey area between 9 p.m. tonight and 9 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, according to the National Weather Service. Other weather forecasters are calling for lower amounts of snow.

Governor Chris Christie has declared a state of emergency. State workers were sent home at 1 p.m. and state offices will remain closed Tuesday. All NJ Transit service will be shut down Tuesday.

A travel ban for the entire state begins at 11 p.m. Monday.

Police are asking residents not to park on streets during the storm and clean up period so that the streets can be plowed properly. In Princeton, overnight parking will be prohibited from 6 p.m. Monday Jan. 26, until 9 a.m. Wednesday Jan. 28. Residents with overnight parking permit may park in the Franklin Avenue lot.

Transit

All Port Authority bridges and tunnels – Lincoln, George Washington Bridge, Staten Island and Holland – to NYC will close at 11 p.m. Monday. Area airports remain open, but many flights are cancelled. Check your flight status before you attempt to head out. All New York City MTA and Port Authority public transit systems will be suspended beginning at 11 p.m. tonight until further notice.

The last NJ Transit trains, buses and light rail services will depart from major stations and terminals at 8 p.m. Monday night and are scheduled to arrive at their final destinations by 10 p.m. Rail service will make all local stops on the last trip. Trains will continue to run up and down tracks after the suspension of service  to make sure tracks and overhead wires remain clear of ice and snow.

– Bus and light rail service is expected to resume on Wednesday, Jan. 28, depending on the condition of the roads and equipment.

– Rail service is expected to resume on Thursday, Jan. 29, depending on the condition of the tracks, equipment and infrastructure.

– The FreeB is suspended for Tuesday.

Schools

Princeton University and the Princeton Plasma Physics Lab are closed for non-essential personnel Tuesday. TigerTransit buses will not run. University libraries except Mudd Manuscript Library will be open, as will the Frist Campus Center and Whitman College dining hall. Athletic facilities including campus recreation facilities will be closed.

The Princeton Public Schools and the Princeton Charter School are closed Tuesday, as are all other public schools districts in Mercer County and Central New Jersey. Private Schools and private nursery schools will also be closed. If you know of an exceptions, let us know.

Government

All state and county offices are closed on Tuesday. Princeton and Lawrence municipal offices closed.

Princeton Municipal Court is closed on Tuesday.

Princeton trash collection scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 26, will be picked up of Thursday, Jan. 29.

All Princeton Municipal Court sessions scheduled for Tuesday,Jan, 27th, have been cancelled.

The Princeton Public Library will make an announcement about Tuesday as more information is known.

The Princeton Shade Tree Commission meeting scheduled for Jan. 27 has been cancelled.

Corner House offices will be closed Tuesday and all programs are cancelled.

All Mercer County nutrition Sites will be closed on Tuesday. No meals through the nutrition program will be served.

The Montgomery Senior Center will be closed and there will be no Meals on Wheels deliveries Tuesday.

In Lawrence, Tuesday’s garbage collection has been postponed and will be collected on Saturday, Jan. 30th.

Somerset Freeholders meting postponed and rescheduled for Thurs., Jan. 29 at 11:30 a.m.

Somerset County recycling pickups have been postponed for Tuesday, Jan. 27, and may be delayed the remainder of the week.

South Brunswick municipal building, court, senior center, library closed Tuesday.

Franklin Township Council Jan. 27 work session cancelled. Budget hearing scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 3  at 7 p.m. has been changed to a regular meeting.

Community Events

Princeton Community Works has been rescheduled for Friday, Jan. 30, 5 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. at the Frist Campus Center at Princeton University.

Princeton Center for Yoga and Health has cancelled all Tuesday morning classes.

McCarter Theater is not canceling the Monday night Buddy Holly Story performance, but is offering trade ins for any other program on their calendar.
