The Cotsen Children’s Library is an international research collection of illustrated children’s books, manuscripts, original artwork, prints, and educational toys dating back to the 15th century. The library is housed in a gallery at the Princeton University’s Firestone Library, and is open to the public. The library is a unit within the department of rare Books and special collections at the Princeton University Library, and is named after benefactor Lloyd E. Cotsen, a Princeton class of 1950 graduate and emeritus charter trustee of Princeton University. The library hosts academic programs on children’s books, offers research fellowships, curates exhibitions, and creates publications for gallery visitors.

Founded in 2002, the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art, a non-profit organization in Amherst, Mass., works to inspire a love of art and reading through picture books. The only museum of its kind in the United States, The Carle collects, preserves, presents, and celebrates picture books and picture book illustrations from around the world. In addition to underscoring the cultural, historical, and artistic significance of picture books and their art form, The Carle offers educational programs that provide a foundation for arts integration and literacy. Eric Carle is the renowned author and illustrator of more than 70 books, including the 1969 classic “The Very Hungry Caterpillar.”
