Saturday Afternoon Princeton Blizzard Update

sat afternoon changesRoad conditions are worsening as drifting snow makes travel extremely hazardous, area police say. Police in several Princeton area towns are responding to numerous stranded motorists. Police are asking residents to stay off the roads and shelter in place.

Some roads have so much snow that they are not passable. Cold Soil Road is closed between Keefe Road and Carter Road because of all the snow.

The crippling and possibly historic East Coast snow storm continues to pound the Northeast with blizzard conditions and major coastal flooding this afternoon. Gradual improvement is expected tonight and Sunday once the storm begins to move away from the area, according to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly.

Snowfall amounts have been increased in most areas, even in coastal areas where the changeover to rain took longer than previously predicted. Snowfall amounts have also been increased in the north as the snow shield associated with the nor’easter moved further north overnight. Blizzard Warnings have been expanded north. Snowfall will continue through the day, with rain along
the coast. As cold air moves back into the area later today, rain along the coast will turn back to snow.

blizzard saturday updateAnother 7 to 12 inches of snow  is expected today in Central New Jersey. Another 12 to 20
inches of snow is possible near and to the north of I-78. Wet snow is expected near the coast,, with drier snow further inland. The lighter snow will blow and drift around, causing whiteouts and zero visibility at times.

The Princeton area is now expected to get 24-30 inches of snow this weekend.

Power outages will continue due to the ongoing strong winds and snow. Residents who live in the Drakes Corner Road are of Princeton lost power this afternoon. PSE&G estimates that it will be restored around 1 a.m. Sunday. Residents in the Mountainview section of Ewing and in Hamilton Square have also reported outages.  If you lose power call PSE&G at 1-800-436-PSEG (7734). Many JCP&L customers in Hopewell were without power this afternoon. If you are a JCP&L customer and you lose power, call 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877).

Back Bay and Ocean front flooding will continue during this evening’s high tide, and again for Sunday morning’s high tide. Residents in several shore towns have been evacuated due to the flooding.
