Princeton Groups Respond to Mass Shootings in Orlando

A gathering is being planned in Princeton in response to the mass shootings at a gay nightclub in Orlando, but a date for the event has not been set yet. We will post more information when it becomes available.

On Thursday night at 7:30 p.m., The Coalition for Peace Action will host a meeting at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Princeton at 50 Cherry Hill Road to plan a vigil or public witness, as well as other activities.

HiTops is also holding special meetings this Saturday to support LGBTQ young people and their allies.

“It’s difficult to completely articulate how deeply our hearts are broken by the tragedy that occurred in Orlando this past weekend,” writes HiTops Interim Executive Director Bill Schofield. “HiTops is grounded upon a foundation that celebrates our differences and uses them to fuel stronger connections to each other. In a time of extraordinary grief, this is being put to the ultimate test, and it is more important than ever we stand together in unity.”

From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, HiTops is opening its twice a month LGBTQ Youth Support Group “1st & 3rd“ to any LGBTQ youth or ally to talk, share, and support others in a safe space. This group is intended for youth only. A separate discussion for adult allies will be held at the same time. Both sessions are free of charge, and Spanish speakers available. Counselors will be available for those who need them. Both groups will meet at the HiTops office at 21 Wiggins Street in downtown Princeton.
