The board of trustees for the D&R Greenway Land Trust recently elected Phyllis Marchand to become the group’s new chair.

“From the time she was mayor of Princeton, Phyllis has been extraordinary in helping us preserve land,” said D&R CEO Linda Mead. “I am excited about the charismatic leadership she brings to D&R Greenway.”

Marchand served as a township committeewoman for 22 years, and was mayor for 14 years. She joined the board of the D&R Greenway shortly after leaving office in 2009.

She succeeds Brian Breuel for the remainder of the 2016 term. Breuel, who died in late May, was described by his colleagues as an enthusiastic, committed leader who cared deeply about the mission of preserving land.

“While driving around the area, Brian would point out properties that D&R Greenway had preserved,” said his wife, Shirley Breuel.  “He loved being involved with the organization and believed deeply in its work.”
