Four years ago, David Gorman stepped on a scale and discovered that he weighed 306 pounds. He decided then that it was time for a personal transformation. “Once and for all,” he said.

“When I first jumped on a treadmill, I could barely go at a speed of 1.0, and to get where I am now, was a long and hard process,” he said. “One of my big motivations is completing the Princeton Half Marathon, and I’ve been following the race for a number of years.”

Gorman is one of 1,750 people who have registered for the Princeton Half Marathon this year. The fourth annual race will take place at 7 a.m. this Sunday, Nov. 6, and Gorman said he is ready.

He is now up to 7.5 on the treadmill on a regular basis, and has been training hard for the race.

“I made a few tweaks with my style and form. I have lost a few pounds along the way as well, changing my diet in late July in order to get ready for the Princeton Half Marathon,” he said.

Gorman has lived in Princeton for more than 35 years.

“I feel I will not only be representing myself that day, but the town as well,” he said. “It truly means a lot to me to be doing this. In a sense, I have come full circle.”

Gorman has lost more than 111 pounds since the day he stepped on the scale four years ago. He has lost 26 of those pounds since July, when he says he started training for the race in earnest. He now weighs 195 pounds.

“I’m under 200 pounds for the first time in over 20 years. I ran six miles on both Saturday and Sunday, each under one hour and 55 minutes,” he said. “I can’t wait for the race, and even more for what comes after.”
