Two drivers hospitalized after Route 1 crash in West Windsor

Two people had to be taken to the hospital and Route 1 southbound was shut down for five hours on Wednesday night after a Toyota 4 Runner sideswiped two cars, crossed a lane and struck another vehicle.

Just before 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 25, West Windsor Township Police responded to reports of a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Route 1 and Carnegie Center Boulevard. One vehicle was overturned vehicle with the driver was trapped.

A 1994 Toyota 4 Runner was traveling north on Route 1,  and hit a 2012 Ford Escape and a 2010 Honda CR-V near Carnegie Center Boulevard, police said. The 4 Runner then crossed from the northbound lanes of Route 1 through the divider to the southbound lanes of Route 1 and collided with a 2005 Honda Accord that was traveling in a southbound lane.

The drivers of the 4 Runner and the Accord were taken to Capital Health at Fuld for treatment of their injuries. The drivers of the Escape and the CR-V were uninjured. The identities of the drivers are being withheld pending further investigation.
