Two dogs die in fire on Woosamonsa Road (Updated)

Two dogs died in a fire at 74 Woosamonsa Road early Monday morning, police said.

At about 1:55 a.m., a neighbor called 9-1-1 to report a structure fire . The Hopewell Township Police Department and the Pennington Fire Department responded.

Police arrived within minutes and observed flames coming from the rear of the two-level home. The Pennington Fire Department arrived on location and began to battle the fire. The residence was unoccupied at the time of the fire. A resident of the home arrived on scene a short time later.

The fire was brought under control at approximately 3:26 a.m. The home suffered major fire damage, as well as heat, smoke and water damage throughout. The home has been turned over to the homeowners, police said.

Two cats were rescued from the house and are receiving medical care.

Woosamonsa Road between Burd Road and Route 31 was shut down during fire operations.

This incident remains under investigation by the Hopewell Township Police Department, Hopewell Valley Emergency Services, and the Mercer County Prosecutors Office. Police said the fire does not appear to have been caused intentionally though.
