Six newcomers competing for three seats on Princeton Public Schools board

All three Princeton Public Schools board of education members whose terms will be done at the end of the year have decided not to seek re-election.

Six newcomers are vying for the three seats for three-year terms that are up for grabs in the November non-partisan election, according to the Mercer County Clerk’s Office. Today was the deadline to file a petition to seek election to the school board.

The candidates are:

Beth Behrend of Riverside Drive

Jennifer Ludmer of Caldwell Drive

Julie Ramirez of Stone Cliff Road

Jessica Deutsch of Riverside Drive

Michele Tuck-Ponder of Laurel Circle

James Fields of John Street

Fern Spruill, Justin Doran and Connie Witter are all serving their first term and decided not to seek re-election.

The school board controls a budget of more than $95 million. The board will make decisions about expansion and a bond referendum in the coming months, as well as deciding whether to continue the legal battles with the Princeton Charter School.
