Photos: Hundreds rally in Princeton for Families Belong Together march
Several hundred people poured into Hinds Plaza in downtown Princeton for a noon rally to protest President Trump’s immigration policy and the separation of families at the border. Similar rallies were held across the country. The Princeton rally was one of the largest gatherings in New Jersey.
Boo Obama and Hillary
They Suck
What a waste of time. They are using foreigners and their children for narrow political points and goals.
Bravo and kudos to these fine people for resisting and demonstrating against Trump’s and the GOP’s cruel and inhumane policies.
Those ‘inhumane’ policies were made well before Trump.
Obama’s administration was also separating children from the illegal immigrants as well. I guess at that time you didn’t want to use that fact because it was ‘inconvenient’ for you?
Tell people not to jump over the fence in the middle of the night into the USA and use LEGAL ways to enter our country!
Total right wing lie, as usual, promoted by the Federalistpapers dot org amongst other right wingers. The liars are conflating kids who crossed the border alone during Obama’s 2 terms with Trump separating parents from children in less than a year.
From USA Today: In defending its “zero tolerance” border policy that has caused the separation of families, the Trump administration has argued that the Obama and Bush administrations did this too. That’s misleading. Experts say there were some separations under previous administrations, but no blanket policy to prosecute parents and, therefore, separate them from their children.
“Bush and Obama did not have policies that resulted in the mass separation of parents and children like we’re seeing under the current administration,” Sarah Pierce, a policy analyst with the Migration Policy Institute, told us.
To be fair, prior Administrations did not engage in separation to the degree that President Trump has. Also to be fair, the logic behind the Trump policy is that if potential migrants understood that entering the US illegally with their* children would lead to separation, they wouldn’t do it. Shame on Trump for thinking that parents might put their children’s interest first and not take an action that could lead to separation.
*This assumes the migrant is actually the parent of the child and not a child trafficker. A huge problem.
These people are clueless. People entering the USA are breaking the law. What don’t they understand?
