State Confirms Raccoon Had Rabies

Animal Control Officer Mark Johnson responded to a call from Johnson Park School officials this week who reported a raccoon that appeared to have neurological symptoms consistent with rabies. Johnson captured the raccoon and the New Jersey State Department of Health & Senior Services confirmed today that the raccoon did test positive for rabies.

The borough health department is actively investigating whether there was any human or animal contact with the raccoon. The department  is stressing to residents that they should stay away from wild animals such as raccoons, bets and feral cats.

If you see wild animals showing the signs and symptoms of rabies, contact your local police Department or Princeton Animal Control at (609) 924-2728 (during the day). Visit the New Jersey State Department of Health for more information at https://nj.gov/health
