Princeton Junction Security Bolstered for 9/11 Anniversary

The West Windsor Police Department, which oversees security at the train station in Princeton Junction, is stepping up security measures in light of fears a terrorist attack could be attempted on the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11.

Additional officers will be present in the train station for heightened security purposes, police said, and West Windsor also has 2 of its own bomb dogs and tactical team.

“We are constantly prepared and ready for changes in the national threat level,” the police communications department posted in an alert to residents about security for the anniversary.

On Thursday night, U.S. officials said they received specific intelligence that al Qaeda militants in Pakistan might be attempting car or truck bombings in New York City and Washington D.C., to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks.

Officials said they received the intelligence within the last few days and that they are taking the threat seriously. President Barack Obama, who is planning to attend the anniversary ceremony in Lower Manhattan on Sunday morning, was briefed on the threat multiple times Thursday.
