Car Crashes Through McCaffrey’s Supermarket in Princeton (Updated)

The black Honda crashed into the front of McCaffrey's.

An elderly man drove a black Honda sedan through the front of McCaffrey’s Supermarket in the Princeton Shopping Center at about 3:15 p.m. Monday.

The driver, 74-year-old David Isaacs of Hillsborough, injured himself and two shoppers when he crashed through the exit door at the front of the store, but Princeton Township Police Spokesman Michael Cifelli said injuries from the accident did not appear to be life threatening.

Isaacs was pinned inside the car, and it took rescuers from the Princeton First Aid and Rescue Squad about half an our to free him. The top of the car had to be cut off to get him out.

He and the two injured people from inside the store, employee Christian Brault, 20, and shopper Carol Kelly, 56, both from Lawrenceville, were taken to the University Medical Center at Princeton for evaluation.

Some shoppers were still shopping in the store after the crash. Township officials inspected the building to determine if it was structurally safe. Cifelli said the store would remain open  and repair crews are already at the building.

The accident is still under investigation and more details will be released as police confirm them.

Some residents heard a helicopter overhead and feared it was a medivac unit, but it was Channel 6 News.

Note: In an earlier version of this story, police identified Christian Brault as a 21-year-old shopper. Brault is a 20-year-old employee of the supermarket.
