Princeton Consolidation Update: Sunday PCDO Forum, New Opposition Website

The local Democratic club will host a public forum this Sunday on the hottest topic in Princeton this fall – consolidation.

On Nov. 8, voters in the borough and township will be asked whether the two municipalities should become one.

The Princeton Community Democratic Organization program Sunday is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Suzanne Patterson Center behind Borough Hall. It is one of several forums scheduled for the fall to discuss the consolidation referendum.

Titled “Consolidation: A debate on the proposal to merge Princeton Borough and Township. What’s different this time? What’s a progressive Democrat to do?”, the program will feature a panel of local Democrats discussing both the current proposal for the consolidation of the two Princetons and past proposals for municipal consolidation.

Residents Claire Jacobus and Patrick Simon will present the pro-consolidation view, while residents Alexi Assmus and Kate Warren will present the opposition view. The panelists will respond to written questions from the audience.

At the end of the program, club members will discuss the future role of the group and any changes needed if consolidation passes, and if it does not. Audience participation is invited and the event is free.

Two groups have formed to lobby for and against consolidation. The opposition group, Preserve Our Historic Borough, launched its website this afternoon. The pro-consolidation group Unite Princeton already launched its website last month. Both groups have begun to collect signatures for ads about consolidation that will run in local print papers.
