Friday, Sept. 16

Constitution Day Program at the Princeton Public Library includes interactive games and quizzes for children grades 3-8. Held in recognition of the September 17, 1787, signing of the Constitution of the United States. 4 p.m. in the library community room.

The Artwork of John Lennon, benefit for the Mercer Street Friends Food Bank. “Gimme Some Truth,” an exhibit featuring close to 100 different drawings and songwriting lyrics created by Lennon from 1964 to 1980. From 5-9 p.m., Palmer Square, 19 Hulfish Street $2 donation to benefit the food bank.

Ten Cents a Dance, McCarter Theatre (Berlind) Rodgers and Hart musical directed by John Doyle with the cast doubling as the orchestra. $20 and up., 8 p.m. , 91 University Place, 609-258-2787.

The Jersey Jumpers from the Central Jersey Dance Society will teach you swing and lindy hop from the 1920s to the present. Lesson followed by an open dance, $12 admission. No partners needed. Beginners welcome. Starts at 7 p.m. at the Unitarian Church, 50 Cherry Hill Road.

Folk Dance with the Princeton Folk Dance group at the Suzanne Patterson Center, 45 Stockton Street. Beginners welcome. Lesson followed by dance, no partner needed. Admission $5, starts at 8 p.m.

Saturday, Sept. 17

Arrr!!! The Princeton Shopping Center will host Talk Like a Pirate Day, 10 a.m. -2 p.m. Enjoy live music, pirates with parrots, a kid’s costume contest for those who come dressed in pirate or damsel costumes, pirate crafts and activities, a children’s treasure hunt, and a pirate shop built out of Pirate’s Booty snacks. The event is part of the final day of a treasure hunt that began Sept. 1 and must be completed by noon on Saturday in order to qualify for a $2,000 grand prize.

At the Princeton Public Library, Preschoolers are invited to celebrate International Talk Like a Pirate Day in the story room with an hourlong program that will include pirate-themed stories, a pirate and princess parade, activities and crafts. Wear a bandana or eyepatch or full pirate gear, or dress like a princess.

Apple Day Weekend at Terhune Orchards. Celebrate the apple harvest with a spotlight on pumpkins, gourds, and Indian corn. Pony rides, tractor-drawn and horse-drawn wagon rides, corn stalk maze, and displays in the machinery barn. Apple and pumpkin picking. Apple pies, donuts, muffins, and salads available. Music by Daisy Jug Band from noon-4. Special guest Saturday is Princeton author Herman Parish, who has carried on his aunt’s legacy by penning more Amelia Bedelia books. Rain or shine. $5., children 3 and under free. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The farm is located at 330 Cold Soil Road, 609-924-2310. Admission to the farm store, winery tasting room and Van Kirk Road pick your own apples is free.

The third annual Butler/Wilson 5K Run, organized by students at Princeton University, begins at 10 a.m. at Butler’s Bloomberg Hall. The race is open to the public, walkers and runners welcome. A $5 minimum donation or a non-perishable food item for the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen in lieu of registration fee. Check-in and same-day registration will begin at 9 a.m. Rain date is Sunday, Sept. 18.

The Central Jersey Chess Tournament, sponsored by New Jersey Chess. Open to kindergarten to eighth graders of all levels. All players receive a medal or trophy. Fall Fashion Showcase to benefit the Princeton Public Library, hosted by Rouge and La Jolie Salon and Spa at the Albert Hinds Plaza next to the library, noon-4. At noon and  2 p.m., models will showcase trends for the fall season along a red carpet lining the plaza. Music provided by Advanced Entertainment Solutions and food provided by Bon Appetite Fine Foods of Princeton. Ten percent of all sales with go to the library.

Taste of Place at Eno Terra, a benefit for the Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed Association, 2-6 p.m. Farm fresh food off a wood-fired grill and family-focused activities underscoring the importance of nature and our local water, all topped off by Chris Albrecht’s menu from Eno Terra’s Canal Farm.
