34th Annual Anchor House Ride for Runaway to Start from Virginia: Information Session This Weekend

Virginia is for bike lovers, or at least this July it will be as the 34th annual Anchor House Ride for Runaways kicks off from Staunton, just 50 miles from Natural Bridge.

Anchor House is holding an information session about the ride this Sunday morning at 11 a.m. For more information, view the Anchor House  flyer. Applications for the week-long ride will be available later this month.

The ride raises money for Anchor House, the Trenton-based nonprofit that offers shelter and support services for runaway, abused and neglected children in the greater Mercer County area. In 2011 the ride raised $498,000. Anchor House depends on the ride to cover about a third of its operating costs each year. Last year more than 200 people participated in the ride.

On July 7, cyclists will depart for Virginia by bus. They will pedal back starting in Staunton, with stops in Woodstock and Winchester before they enter Maryland. After a night in Frederick they will head to Gettysburg, Pa. They will make stops in  Lancaster and Kulpsville before marking their 500th mile at the Quakerbridge Mall on July 14.
