Save the Date: Princeton Public Library Book Drive Set for April 21

Have you come across books you no longer want while doing your spring cleaning? You can get rid of the clutter and support a good cause at the same time by donating them to the book drive hosted by the Princeton Public Library.

The library is teaming up with Better World Books for the annual book drive that highlights literacy and book recycling. New and gently used books will be collected to benefit the library and Foundations for Peace, which will ship some of the donated books to a school library in Haiti.

Books can be dropped off  from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on April 21 in the library community room, or you can  bring them to the library and place them in designated boxes during the week leading up to the book drive.

Youth volunteers from the library’s teen advisory board and Go Between Club, as well as youth community volunteers and the youth group from Westerly Road Church, will help with the book drive by sorting and packing the donated books.

“In addition to bringing in thousands of books that benefit the library and beyond, there’s another aspect of the book drive that makes it one of my favorite events,” PPL librarian Susan Conlon said. “Sorting through the wide variety of books that come in sparks enthusiasm and interaction among the teen volunteers who help out during the day. It’s just wonderful to see how excited they get about books they have read – or about discovering one they can’t wait to read.”

In conjunction with the book drive, and as an added way to assist customers with spring cleaning, Cintas Corporation will be available at the library with its truck during the book drive to accept documents for secure shredding. Up to five office-size boxes per person may be dropped off at the back door of the library on Sylvia Beach Way between the hours of 12:30 and 3 p.m on April 21.
