Brush Fire at Mountain Lakes Burns 2 Acres of Woodlands

A brush fire was put out by firefighters early Saturday evening at the Mountain Lakes Preserve.

Police responded to a report of a large amount of smoke coming from the woods at the preserve just before 5 p.m. After entering the woods, they discovered a large brush fire in the north central part of the preserve along the Transco Gas Pipeline.
Due to the size of the fire, the park was evacuated. Multiple fire departments including Princeton, West Windsor,
Plainsboro, Montgomery, Hopewell, and Lawrence were dispatched to help, along with the New Jersey Department of Forestry.

The fire was considered under control at about 6:20 pm. Police said it took several additional hours of inspection and clean-up to assure the fire was completely out. Approximately 2 acres of woodland were burned. The cause of the fire is still under
investigation.
