Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Princeton Awards $2,000 to Crisis Ministry

The Social Outreach Committee of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Princeton has awarded the Crisis Ministry of Princeton and Trenton a $2,000 grant to support the purchase of locally grown produce for the low-income individuals and families who rely on the Crisis Ministry’s food pantries and free farmers markets.

The UUCP’s social outreach committee raises funds for grants through the congregations Spring Sale, which will take place Saturday, May 12, at the UUCP, which is located at 50 Cherry Hill Road in Princeton Township.

“Getting a great bargain in these tough times is even better when you know it benefits your community,” said Louise Senior, a co-chair of the 2012 Spring Sale who volunteers with Crisis Ministry. “All profits from this sale are returned to local non-profit groups who provide needed services to our neighbors.”

Founded in 1980 by Nassau Presbyterian Church and Trinity Church, the Crisis Ministry assists about 1,300 individuals and families each month, providing food, emergency housing assistance, and employment training and mentoring. The Crisis Ministry also partners with Capital Health System to provide bimonthly health screenings and with Rutgers Extension Service for bilingual nutrition education.
