Eight students from John Witherspoon Middle School and their bus driver were taken to the new University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro this afternoon after the bus driver crashed into a tree on the first block of Valley Road, police said.

None of the injuries were life threatening, and were mostly bumps and bruises, police said.

Nineteen members of the John Witherspoon School baseball team were in the bus when the accident occurred, police said.

The accident happened just before 3:30 p.m., Princeton Township Police received a 911 call reporting the accident, and Township patrols, the Princeton First Aid, West Windsor First Aid and the Princeton Fire Department all responded to the scene.

The bus was driven by Christine Walker, 43, of Hamilton.  The names of the injured students are being held because of their ages, but all parents were notified of the incident. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. No charges have been filed yet pending the outcome of the investigation.
