Burglary Attempts Continue in Eastern Section of Princeton Borough

A series of residential burglaries and burglary attempts took place in the eastern section of Princeton Borough last Thursday night and Friday morning, police said.

A thief or thieves tried to enter five homes, police said. In three of five cases, items were stolen. In every case, the burglar entered or tried to enter the home through an unlocked window or unlocked door.

On Sergeant Street, a thief entered a house through an unlocked rear door and stole a laptop computer and camera valued at $3,600. A laptop computer and a digital camera valued at $1,500 were stolen after a thief entered a home on the 200 block of Nassau Street through a basement window. A wallet and its contents also were stolen when a thief entered an unlocked door on South Harrison Street.

Some time between 10:45 p.m. on May 24 and 8 a.m. on May 25, someone tried to gain entry to a home on the 300 block of Nassau Street by removing a window screen. Someone also tried to enter a Queenston Place home between 1:30 p.m. and midnight on May 24, but a dog scared the intruder away.
The incidents are the latest in a series of burglaries and attempted burglaries in recent months in Princeton Borough and Princeton Township. On May 18 a robber entered an unoccupied residence and stole an Apple iPad, and then stole the homeowner’s vehicle.

Thieves have often targeted homes and cars with easy access, where owners have left the windows open or the doors unlocked.

Police are asking residents to keep all home windows and doors locked and to report any suspicious people or activity to the police department immediately via 9-1-1 or the main Borough police non-emergency number, (609) 924-4141.

Lt. Sharon Papp told officials at the Borough Council meeting last week that the police department is willing to send officers out at a resident’s request to conduct a home security check to determine which safety measures are good and what needs improvement.
