Planet Weekend Picks, June 1-3

Back from a national tour and sold out shows in Washington and New York, Princeton’s Triangle Club returns to McCarter Theatre for two encore performances of its original musical extravaganza this weekend.

Friday, June 1

Triangle Show, McCarter Theatre – Princeton’s famous Triangle Club, the oldest collegiate musical-comedy troupe in the nation, performs `Doomsdays of Our Lives…Hindsight is 2012′ in the Matthews Theatre. Tickets $25 to $50. Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 7:30 p.m., www.mccarter.org.

Are You There, McPhee?, McCarter Theatre – World premiere of John Guare’s play focusing on a playwright sucked into the tangle of lives of a pair of abandoned children. Pre-show talk 45 minutes before each performance. Berlind Theatre, tickets $20 and up, Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 3 and 8 p.m., Sunday at 2 p.m., www.mccarter.org.

First Fridays, Trenton Social Bar and Restaurant – Opening reception for ‘Already Made in Trenton,’ an exhibition of oil paintings by Suzanne Dinger of Pennington. The show focuses on the artist’s recent work capturing Trenton’s industrial past and present with a particular emphasis on work spaces as diverse as the Roebling Wire Works and the Trenton Atelier. Reception from 7-10 p.m., free. Trenton Social is located 449 South Broad Street, Trenton, across from the arena.

Saturday, June 2

Watch Fair, Hamilton Jewelers – Centennial celebration featuring nearly 1,000 timepieces from the world’s premier brands and the latest in timepiece design and function. 92 Nassau Street, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

70’s Cinema Fest for Teens at the Princeton Public Library – Fest kicks off with screening of ‘The Front’ at 11 a.m., followed by `All the President’s Men’,`The China Syndrome’ and `The Network’. Free.

Princeton University Reunions P-Rade – Head to Nassau Street for the festive annual march. Starts at 2 p.m.

35th Annual Concert of the Princeton High School Studio Band – Performance includes music from this year year’s competition set and studio band standards. Alumni are invited to bring their horns and join the band for a couple of tunes. At Princeton High School, 151 Moore Street, 8 p.m.

Drum Circle, Princeton Center for Yoga & Health – African drums, native American drums, and Cuban drums in prescribed rhythms. For ages 6 to 106. Led by Mark Wood. No experience necessary. At the Orchard Hill Center, 88 Orchard Road in Skillman, 8-9 p.m. tickets $15.

Princeton University Reunion Fireworks– A spectacular fireworks display created by the Santore Brothers of Garden State Fireworks. At Finney and Campbell Fields across Washington Road, east of Princeton Stadium. Enter from Ivy Lane by Clarke Field. Begins around 9 p.m.

Sunday, June 3

Paddle for Pink Dragon Boat Festival, Machestic Dragons – Dragon boat festival benefit for the breast cancer resource center of the YWCA Princeton. Hosted by the Machestic Dragons, an area team of breast cancer survivors and supporters. Mercer County Park Marina, 8 a.m.-4 p.m., free to spectators.

Voting 101 Hosted by the League of Women Voters – Non-partisan workshop at the Princeton Public Library for new citizens and new voters focuses on the voting process including the sample ballot, signing in, using the voting machine, and knowing the rights. In English and Spanish. Refreshments. 2:30 p.m., free.
