Princeton Senior Hosting Backpack Drive

Celestin

Ciara Celestin is lending a helping hand to make sure elementary school children in need start the new academic year off right.

The Princeton High senior is running a backpack drive with the help of Princeton’s human services department. She hopes to collect more than 100 backpacks filled with school supplies to be distributed to children in grades K-6 in late August.

Celestin is working on the backpack drive as part of her Girl Scout Gold Award. If her publicity efforts are any indication, her efforts will be a success. She put together her own press release and reached out to the media to raise awareness about her efforts.

“I love kids, so I brainstormed, and came up with this project,” She said. ” I think it is a great project, and such an essential in our community. The Gold award requires 80 hours of service, so it is important that you choose something you are passionate about.”
The human services department holds an annual holiday drive. Celestin said letters for the backpack drive were sent out to lower income families that participated in the holiday drive.

The deadline for backpacks and supplies donation is August 13th. Donations are being accepted during office hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Princeton Human Services Department, which is located at the Princeton Township Municipal Complex at 380 Witherspoon Street on the lower level.

Celestin will distribute the backpacks with the help of her fellow Girl Scouts.
