Princeton Area Arts Organizations Awarded $1.5 Million in State Grants

The New Jersey Council on the Arts announced $15.7 million in grants this week to nearly 800 local arts organizations across the state. State arts funding is appropriated through a dedicated hotel and motel occupancy fee and grants from the National Endowment for the Arts. The awards were announced at the Arts Council’s 46th Annual Meeting held at the War Memorial in Trenton.

Mercer County organizations, most of them based in Princeton, were awarded a total of $1.54 million in funding, with McCarter Theatre receiving the largest grant in the county, $626,820.

  1. The State of New Jersey’s pension and retiree health care plans are underfunded by $100 billion, but the State was still able to find $30,000 to give to Princeton University, which has $17 billion in its endowment.
