Interfaith Vigils to Be Held in Princeton Area Tonight to Remember Victims of Sikh Temple Shooting

Interfaith candlelight vigils will be held in Princeton and across the nation tonight to  remember the victims of the deadly shooting rampage Sunday at the Sikh temple in Wisconsin, to show support for the Sikh community, and to express solidarity.

A vigil will be held at 8 p.m. in Princeton at the fountain next to the Woodrow Wilson School. on Washington Road. Organizer Kanwal Matharu is encouraging people to bring friends, to stay as long or as briefly as they would like, and to feel comfortable to ask him anything about Sikhism, his life and his family.

The Sikh community in Lawrenceville will also host an interfaith vigil tonight and invites the public to attend. Sikh Sabha is located at 282 Bakers Basin Road in a 5,000 square foot facility. The community there has worked hard over the last several years to promote interfaith dialogue and openness and educate people about Sikhism. We highly recommend you visit the Sikh Sabha tonight or for Sunday worship if you want to learn more about Sikhism and experience worship in a Sikh gudwara. The program tonight begins at 7 p.m. The schedule is as follows:

7-8 p.m. – Religious service

8-8:30 p.m. – Talks by Lawrence Mayor Jim Kownacki.  New Jersey Assemblyman Dan Benson, and Sikh Sabha member Jaspreet Singh
