Planet Weekend Picks, August 10-12

The jazz group Silverspade will make its public debut at the Thomas Sweet at the Montgomery Shopping Center Saturday night. Band members are Joey Lockwood, Nick Ng, Ben Fortunato, Jeremy Fortunato, Jon Garaffa and Matt Heebner.

Friday, August 10

Staged Reading of The Arabian Nights  – Brandon Monokian directs a reading of Mary Zimmerman’s stage adaptation of “The Arabian Nights” as part of the Princeton Public Library’s Page to Stage series. Monokian, who directed three readings in the Page to Stage series last summer and a  dramatization of “Einstein’s Dreams” by Alan Lightman, returns with a troupe of emerging and experienced performers. 7 -.m. in the library  community room, free.

The American Plan,  Princeton Summer Theater – Richard Greenberg’s romantic drama set in the Catskills during the summer of 1960. 8 p.m. in the Hamilton Murray Theater at Princeton University. Tickets $25. Performances Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m, Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m.

Open Mic Night, Infini-T Cafe – Music and more at the tea house on Hulfish Street. Get there early if you want to make sure you get a seat. Starts at 9 p.m., free.

West Windsor and Montgomery Farmers’ Markets –  Montgomery Friends of Open Space Farmers’ Market at the Village Shopping Center, which is located at 1340 Route 206 South in Skillman. West Windsor Community Farmers’ Market at the Vaughn Drive Parking Lot at the Princeton Junction Train Station. Both run 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Butterfly Festival at the Stony Brook Millstone Watershed Association – Naturalist-guided tours of the Kate Gorrie Butterfly House, live entertainment, local food, children’s activities, demonstrations and exhibits about the environment. Runs from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. at the Watershed, which is located at 31 Titus Mill Road in Pennington. Tickets $10, $25 per car load. Parking at Bristol-Myers Squibb.

Graffiti Jam at TerraCycle – More than 50 accomplished graffiti artists from across the country will participate in the 8th annual Graffiti Jam at TerraCycle’s headquarters on the corner of New York Ave. and Hillside Ave. in Trenton. Dubbed the ‘Jersey Fresh Jam,’ the event will cover every wall of TerraCycle’s offices with brand new colorful designs. Story Time at the Princeton Public Library – Children and their grown-ups will listen to  stories, sing songs and have some fun in the story room on the third floor of the library, 3:30 p.m., free.
