Planet Princeton Editor Krystal Knapp Named to National Board for Local Independent Online Publishers

I am excited to announce that I will be serving on the board of directors for the newly formed Local Independent Online News Publishers, a national association of independent publishers and editors who run sites similar to Planet Princeton.

The goal of LION Publishers is to foster the viability and excellence of locally focused independent online news organizations and strengthen their connections to their communities through education and action.

In this time of great instability in the news industry, we are dedicated to championing independent local online news businesses that cover general news (government, education, events, etc.), in the firm belief that independent publishers are establishing the model for successful local digital news organizations.

We are committed to strong local independent journalism, whether in small towns or big cities, to telling the stories that reflect the communities and build a sense of place, and to shine an informative light that allows citizens to make wise decisions. The Internet is worldwide, but every neighborhood’s story is individual.

The Columbia Journalism Review interviewed the head of our new board, Dylan Smith of the Tucson Sentinel,  and ran a story about the group today.

If you have any thoughts or suggestions for strengthening local coverage or building sustainable news models, send me an email at krystal@planetprinceton.com. I would love to chat with you.

  1. Congratulations, Krystal! Somehow, I always picture you reporting on the Anchor House ride from your perch on your bicycle, but this is great.

  2. LION is so lucky to have you, Krystal! Congratulations. Our community owes you a huge ‘thank you’ for the quality and scope of your reporting. Kate
