Police: Honda Fit Tire Thefts on the Rise at Princeton Junction Train Station, Canal Pointe Development

West Windsor Police report that there has been an increase in tire and rim thefts at the the Princeton Junction Train Station and the Canal Pointe condominium development behind the MarketFair Mall.

Honda vehicles, particularly the Honda Fit,  have been the target of thieves, who are removing all four tires and leaving the vehicle on concrete blocks, police said.

Anyone observing suspicious activity should dial 911 immediately.

Community leaders across the country have reported an uptick in tire thefts, as the New York Times reported in June. The increase is attributed to the ease of selling the tires through anonymous online marketplaces  and advances in power tool technology that allow thieves to remove tires quickly. The Honda Fit is a target because the small tires are especially attractive for back alley car customizers, some experts say.
