Princeton University Presidential Search Committee to Host Public Forum Nov. 12

The committee that is conducting the search for Princeton University’s next president will hold a public forum for members of the local community next week to receive feedback on the what qualities the next leader of the school should have.

The meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 12 in Room 016 of the Woodrow Wilson School’s Robertson Hall, which is located at the corner of Washington Road and Prospect Avenue.

The forum is part of the search committee’s outreach efforts both on and off campus.

“We hope that any members of the on-campus Princeton community, the alumni body or the off-campus community who have views they would like to share with the committee will do so through the website or will attend one of the forums or meetings that we will be conducting,” said Kathryn Hall, the chair of the committee. “Especially at this early stage of the process, we are eager to hear from anyone who has suggestions about how we can best fulfill our responsibility to identify Princeton’s 20th president.”

The committee has created a website to provide information about the search and to solicit comments and suggestions. Visitors to the site are asked for their views about the major challenges, opportunities and issues facing Princeton, the major areas in which the next president will need to provide leadership, and the principal qualities, characteristics, skills and experiences that the committee should seek. Visitors to the site are also invited to suggest specific candidates and offer any other thoughts they believe would be helpful. Submissions to the site will only be shared with the 17 members of the search committee.

In September Princeton’s current president, Shirley M. Tilghman, announced her intention  to step down from her position at the end of the 2012-13 academic year after serving for 12 years as Princeton’s 19th president.

  1. Perhaps an appreciation of historic rail lines would indicate the sensitivity to the community and history that a true leader would possess.
