35th Annual Anchor House Ride for Runaways Will Start From the Green Mountain State

AHRoute

Anchor House will host an information session this Sunday for anyone who is considering signing up for the Ride for Runaways for the first time.  If you’ve ever thought about doing the Anchor House Ride for Runaways but want to know more about Anchor House and the ride, attend the information session Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 482 Centre Street in Trenton. Riders and support crew members will be on hand to share their experiences participating in the ride.

Ride applications will be posted on the Ride for Runaways website on Monday. Get your application in early to reserve your spot. The ride fills up fast, especially on anniversary years.

AHLogoThe 35th annual Ride for Runaways will start from Burlington, Vermont, a favorite starting point for many Anchor House cyclists. The cyclists will pedal 500 miles over seven days, making stops in Rutland, Vermont; Glens Falls, Latham, and Kingston, New York; and Matamoras and Bethlehem, Pennsylvania before reaching Trenton.

The ride runs from July 13-20. About 220 people participate in the annual event that raises money for Anchor House, a Trenton-based non-profit serving homeless, abused, and runaway kids. The 2012 ride raised more than $473,000.

Anchor House riders come from a wide range of backgrounds and cycling abilities. The average daily mileage on the ride is 70 miles. Starting in the spring, cyclists meet up on weekends to train together and pair up with cyclists who ride at similar speeds. People who don’t want to cycle but still want to participate can also join the Ride for Runaways support crew.

Participants take chartered buses up to the starting point in Vermont and stay in hotels each night of the ride. The ride application fee is $100. Each participant must raise $750 in pledges. The application deadline is March 4.

  1. i am interested in signing up for the Anchor House Ride 2014! I know it is very early but I have already begun to train. Dr. Rosvold, my cardiologist and I just spoke and he was encouraging me to do next years ride. I would like to find out how when and where I sign up for the ride. Could you please send me some information to get started. I am a retired school teacher and had a few really good experiences with Anchor House when I was teaching. I am dedicated to the cause and am an avid cyclist. Carol O’Keefe cokeefegreen07@gmail.com
