Apple Store Coming to the Quakerbridge Mall?

AppleA handful of websites that cover Apple, Inc. have reported that the company has been advertising jobs for a Princeton retail location, most likely for a future store at the Quakerbridge Mall in Lawrence.

Speculation is that the Apple Store will be located in space across from the Lord & Taylor store, and that, based on the hiring schedule posted on the Apple job site,  the store open this summer.

Planet Princeton was told by a Lawrence official back in the fall that a map for the redesigned mall showed an Apple Retail Store indie the mall, but a representative for the Simon Property Group, the company that owns the mall, would not confirm it at the time.

A Simon representative who was contacted today would not confirm whether Apple will be a tenant and said any announcement would come from Apple, not the mall management company. Apple has retails stores in the region at the Menlo Park Mall, Freehold Raceway Mall and Bridgewater Commons Mall.

One of the long-known criteria for evaluating future Apple retail store locations is a proximity to a institution of higher learning. The Quakerbridge Mall is about six miles from downtown Princeton and Princeton University. The region is host to several international companies, including Dow Jones, Johnson & Johnson, Merrill Lynch and Bristol-Meyers Squibb.
