Gentlemen, get ready to put away your razors and grow a beard for a good cause. The Alchemist & Barrister’s annual LongBeard Benefit gets underway on Feb. 1.

The benefit will raise money this year for the wife and 5-year-old daughter of Princeton First Aid and Rescue Squad member Michael Kenwood, who died after making a res

cue attempt in the Stony Brook during Hurricane Irene. The benefit raised $10,000 last year for Derek’s Dreams, to support 15-year old Derek DiGregorio, who suffers from rare neurodegenerative disease called Ataxia Telangiectasia.

On Feb. 1, clean-shaven men can register for the competition at the A&B with a $25 donation. The night kicks off a series of events leading up to the pub’s St. Patrick’s Day Party on March 17th, when beards are measured at the party, with prizes and bragging rights awarded for the longest beard, ugliest beard and best looking beard. Last year’s winner was Howard Levy of Princeton.

“Each year, our staff and patrons support a local charity that reflects the courage and commitment of our community,” said Arthur Kukoda, the A&B’s executive chef and owner. “There is no better example of that courage and commitment than Michael Kenwood who lost his life trying to save another.”
