Friday, February 15

Sound of Music Sing-A-Long – McCarter Theatre screens the classic film with subtitles so that the audience can sing along. Fancy dress competition on stage.  7 p.m. in Matthews Theater. Tickets $25.

Screening of `Moonrise Kingdom’ – Bruce Willis, Edward Norton and Bill Murray star in the story of the search for two 12-year-olds who have run off into the wilderness and the effect it has on an entire town. 7 p.m. in the Princeton Public Library Community Room, free.

`A Bach Family Tree’ Organ Concert – Concert in Miller Chapel at Princeton Theological Seminary features Alan Morrison, the newly appointed head of the organ department at Westminster Choir College, and the Princeton Seminary Singers. Morrison performs works of four Bachs. 7:30 p.m., free.

Princeton Sound Kitchen – The Brentano String Quartet performs new works by graduate student composers in Taplin Auditorium at Princeton University, 7:30 p.m., free.

Special Preview Screening of `A Painted World’ – Join the Princeton University Art Museum for a screening of a documentary film. The completed film will be released this summer by Night Fire Films. Major funding was provided by the National Endowment for the Humanities. Over the past fifty years, beautifully carved sculptures and exquisitely painted ancient Maya ceramics have flooded into the world’s public and private collections. The images and texts have opened windows onto Maya life, literature, mythology, and history. A Painted World is a feature documentary that celebrates the artistry of these monuments and vases and explores the tangled moral and economic issues involved in the excavation, collection, and study of ancient Maya art, as well as the breakthroughs that are illuminating the meanings of these precious objects. 5 – 8 p.m., free.

Art for Families: Art Tales – Join the Princeton University Arts Museum Saturday mornings for family fun. Drop in anytime between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. and enjoy a self-guided, interactive tour followed by a related art project. All ages are welcome; no tickets or reservations are needed. Learn about the customs and traditions of different cultures through the stories people told and the art they created. Then make a puppet.

Black History Month Hands On Workshop – Visit the Princeton Arts Council and create projects inspired by African Art. 2-4 p.m., free.

Princeton Women’s Basketball Plays Pink – Attendees at the Princeton University’s women’s basketball game who wear pink will receive free admission to the game and there will be contests for the best dressed fans in pink. There will be a pink t-shirt sale and a silent auction in the lobby of Jadwin Gym before the game. Doors open at 5 p.m., game against Harvard begins at 6 p.m. All proceeds from the t-shirt sale and auction will support the Kay Yow Cancer Fund and the YWCA Breast Cancer Resource Center. At halftime, members of the audience who have been affected by breast cancer will be asked to come down to the court and form a human pink ribbon at center court.

A Delicate Balance, McCarter Theatre – Final weekend. Edward Albee’s play about unexpected house guests who plan to stay indefinitely. Directed by Emily Mann. Berlind Theatre, Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m., Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets $20 and up.

Cabernet Cabaret at the Arts Council of Princeton – Tapas reception followed by an evening of cabaret music by Sarah Donner, Joanna Burns, Amanda Duncan, Rebecca Olsson & Avi Wisnia, 7:30 p.m. $15 admission, $10 students, seniors, Arts Council members.

Sideband Ensemble of the Princeton Laptop Orchestra – The ensemble brings a creative intersection of music composition, performance, technology, acoustics, and space. 8 p.m. at the West Windsor Arts Council, 952 Alexander Road. Tickets $20.

Opening and Concert: Ornament of the World – Join the Princeton University Art Museum for a concert in the Mathey College Common Room, followed by a reception and the opening of the exhibition Revealing the African Presence in Renaissance Europe. The concert highlights 8th through 15th century culture in Al-Andalus, a golden era of intellectual and artistic exchange among Christian, Islamic, and Jewish cultures. With members of the Philadelphia-based North African takht ensemble Al-Bustan, the Princeton Singers will explore Arabic and Sephardic influences on music in medieval Europe through poetry, music, and a lecture-demonstration by Steven Sametz and Hannah Khoury, director of Al-Bustan.

Ukulele Concert with Kaitlin Overton – The self-taught ukulele player and composer has written music for Brandon Monokian’s staged reading of “The Arabian Nights” for the Princeton Public Library’s Page to Stage series, as well as Monokian’s original play “Grimm Women,” which starred Style Network’s Briella Calafiore and played at The Kraine Theatre in New York this past December. Princeton Public Library Community Room, 3 p.m., free.
