Friday, April 19

Princeton Jazz Festival – A chance to hear some of the best high school and middle school jazz bands in the state. The Princeton Studio Band performs with jazz drummer and Grammy winner Peter Erskine both nights. Runs Friday and Saturday afternoon and evening. Film and Discussion: “Design and Thinking” – The documentary examines the changing landscape of business, culture and society and the impact design thinking has on each.  Following the screening, James Smits of Tiger Labs, Krystal Knapp of Planet Princeton, and John LeMasney of LeMasney Technology and Design Consulting will participate in a discussion. Princeton Public Library Community Room, 7 p.m., free. Co-sponsored by the library, Tiger Labs and Planet Princeton.

The Winter’s Tale, McCarter Theatre – Shakespeare’s tragedy directed by Rebecca Taichman includes music and comedy. Tickets $20 and up. Performances Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m., Sunday at 2 p.m.

The 6th Annual Record Store Day at the Princeton Record Exchange – Celebrate independently owned record stores by stopping by PREX on Tulane Street. Limited edition titles, freebies, and more.  300+ limited edition titles are being released including: 7” singles from Dylan, Iron and Wine, Bowie, Screaming Females, and Cheech & Chong (“Earache My Eye”, with that incredible guitar solo!), 12” EPs/LPs from Phish, Bon Jovi, Flaming Lips (4 LP package meant to be played at the same time!), The Cure, Sly and the Family Stone, Grateful Dead (Rare Cuts & Oddities 1966), more. Mercer County Hazardous Waste and Electronics Recycling Day –  Safely dispose of your aerosol cans, used motor oil, pesticides, car batteries, paint, fluorescent lightbulbs, computers, printers, fax machines, televisions, microwaves and more.  8 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine at the John T. Dempster Fire School on Lawrence Station Road. Bring proof of county residency such as a driver’s license.

A Cappella with Redhot & Blue – Yale’s oldest coed a cappella group brings its classic, award-winning sound to Princeton. The group has won national recognition for its innovative arrangements of jazz standards that blend vintage jazz with the upbeat flair of the college a cappella tradition. Handbell Concert, Princeton Theological Seminary – Sacred music performed by the Princeton Ringers, a group comprised of of Princeton Seminary and University students, spouses, staff, alumni, and friends. Miller Chapel, 3 p.m., free.

Music of the Baroque on Period Instruments, Le Triomphe de l’Amour – Music by Bach, Handel, Arne, Boyce, Pepusch, and Jackson. Pre-concert talk by John Burkhalter. Unitarian Church of Princeton, 50 Cherry Hill Road, 7:30 p.m., admission $20.

Sunday, April 21

Art Meets Math Art Exhibit at the Plainsboro Public Library – Opening reception for art exhibit Art Meets Math, a collection of math-inspired mixed media collage, wall sculptures, and paintings by Stefanie Mandelbaum of West Windsor. 9 Van Doren Street, 2- 4 p.m., free.

Festival of Colors, India Foundation of Metropolitan Princeton – Celebrate the Indian festival Holi, the festival of colors, with kites, water balloons, henna competition, live music, refreshments. 1 – 4 p.m. at West Windsor Community Park, 176 Route 571. Admission $5.

Versailles Revisited with the Dryden Ensemble – Dramatic entertainment featuring actors Paul Hecht and Roberta Maxwell, and music from the court of Louis XIV by Louis Couperin, François Couperin, and Marais. Miller Chapel, Princeton Theological Seminary, 3 p.m., tickets $35.
