It’s not your grandma’s flea market, that’s for sure.

This Sunday Trenton Social will host the second edition of the Trenton Punk Rock Flea Market, where more than 100 vendors will be selling everything from handmade and vintage clothing and jewelry to collectibles, toys, artwork, hand blown glass, antiques, posters and other items.

Joe Kuzemka, a big fan of the punk rock scene and the punk rock flea market in Philadelphia, ran the first Trenton flea market at Artworks in January. The event was so successful that he had to find a bigger space for the second one.

tprfm_younggirl“It exceeded expectations,” he said of the inaugural event. “I thought maybe 400 people would show up, and we had about 2,000 people of all ages, including lost of families.”

TC Nelson, general manager of Trenton Social, reached out to offer his space for the next event so that it could be expanded. The Trenton Social parking lot behind 449 South Broad Street will be turned into a flea market from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

The flea market will be more like a festival than a traditional flea market, with special food offerings like a taco stand and a beer garden. Beginning at 5 p.m., live music will be performed inside Trenton Social by bands including Minnesota’s Calling, The Crypkeeper Five, Mad Anthony and Honah Lee.

The event will also include a food drive for the Crisis Ministry of Mercer County. Admission to the flea market is $5, but if you bring a canned good or non-perishable item, admission is just $4. The Crisis Ministry will have a truck on site to collect the food.

“We wanted to do something to give back and we are happy to support the Crisis Ministry and the important work they do,” Kuzemka said.

Visitors don’t have to worry about any parking hassles either.  Free parking will be available in the Mercer County Sun National Bank Center lot located at the corner of Hamilton Avenue and Route 129 Trenton Social is also a short walk from the Trenton Train Station and the NJ Transit Riverline.

“The county and city were very helpful working with us to make this happen,” Nelson said. “Part of our mission at Social is to be a gathering place for Trenton’s artists, musicians, and social-minded groups. The Trenton Punk Rock Flea Market brings together all of these things in one great event, and we’re proud to host its second of many runs.”

Kuzemka, who is also an organizer of Art All Night, said he is excited about showcasing another event that is a win-win for Trenton.

“It is great to put on an event that is a big hit for Trenton,” he said. “People come and they see it is a place you can come to and be safe and have a great time.”
