Princeton Memorial Day Parade Set for Saturday Morning

The Spirit of Princeton will host the annual Memorial Day Parade in downtown Princeton Saturday morning, May 25. The parade will kick off from the corner of Princeton Avenue and Nassau Street at 10 a.m. The parade end at the former Borough Hall. A short ceremony will take place there at 11 a.m. Nassau Street will be closed between Princeton Avenue and Monument Drive from about 9:30 a.m. until about 11:30 a.m., Police Sgt. Mike Cifelli said.

The featured speaker at the ceremony will be Marion Zilinski, a Gold Star Mother whose son, 1st Lt. Dennis W. Zilinski II, died in 2005 from an IED explosion while serving in Iraq.

Parade participants include the Princeton Police and Color Guard, American Legion Post 76, Princeton Girl Choir, Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad, MacGregor Pipe Band, Colonial Musketeer Fife & Drum Corps, 2nd Pennsylvania Regiment, Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops, Little League and Girls Softball Association teams, and a Patriotic Bike Brigade. All veterans are invited to participate in the march.

The Princeton Rotary Club will host its annual pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon on the Palmer Square Green.

After the parade and ceremony, the public is invited to head over to the Princeton Senior Resource Center behind the former Borough Hall to participate in Operation Shoebox, which is dedicated to collecting and shipping toiletries and food to the troop overseas. Volunteers will pack boxes and write messages to soldiers beginning at 11:30 a.m.
