Alexander Street Detour to Begin June 6

Starting on Thursday, June 6, Alexander Street will be closed to thru traffic from College Road to University Place while utilities are placed underground for Princeton University’s arts and transit project. This portion of Alexander is expected to be closed until the end of July.

A detour will be in place for the duration of the closure. A temporary traffic signal has been installed at the intersection of College Road and University Place that will be operational while the detour is being used. This signal will go into flash mode beginning on Tuesday, May 28 and will begin normal operation on Thursday, June 6.

Updated maps showing vehicular and pedestrian detours are available on the Arts and Transit Project website.

Alexander Street will be closed between College Avenue and University Place  again from mid October until February of 2014, and a bypass road will be created.

From the fall of 2013 until the summer of 2014, Dinky shuttle riders will have to catch the train at a temporary station located about a quarter mile south of the existing station. The temporary station, which will be located about 1,210 feet from the existing dinky station, will be located at the southern end of a new commuter lot that is expected to be built by the fall.

The arts and transit project is expected to be completed by the summer of 2017.

  1. Whatever other construction might be taking place, Dinky shuttle riders will be able to catch the train at its present location for the indefinite future, at least until the University’s right to move the station is decided by the Courts. And it is highly unlikely that the Courts will grant the University this right.
