A black bear roamed neighborhoods near the College of New Jersey campus yesterday and was captured in the late afternoon.

Planet Princeton reader Samantha Harley said the bear was on her front lawn at about 2 a.m. Thursday. She awoke when her dog started barking. The bear was latte spotted on Green Lane near the campus. The bear then climbed a tree on campus, witnesses said. Animal control and the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife were called to the scene and the bear was tranquilized. The bear was then relocated to a wildlife habitat.

It is unclear whether the bear is the same black bear that was spotted earlier along Route 1 or whether it is the same bar that showed up at the David Brearley House in Lawrence last weekend. A bear showed up on the property and a woman in the parking lot dropped all her bags and ran into the house. The bear was not interested in following her, and instead raided the garbage cans.
