Former Witherspoon Presbyterian Church Pastor Named New Dean of Students at Princeton Theological Seminary

Rev. John WhiteThe Rev. John E. White has been appointed to serve as the new dean of students and vice president for student relations at Princeton Theological Seminary, school officials announced today.

White comes to Princeton from his current position as dean of students and vice president of student services at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia.

He is not new to Princeton though. From 1992 to 2000 he was pastor of Witherspoon Street Presbyterian Church. He also previously served as dean of students and vice president for student services at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary.

“John has a real heart for students,” Princeton Seminary president Craig Barnes said. “He will bring energy and wisdom to our entire Seminary community.”

A graduate of Pittsburgh Seminary with both the M.Div. and D.Min. degrees, White has served the Presbyterian Church (USA) in many capacities, including as vice moderator of Pittsburgh Presbytery.

White will begin his new position at Princeton on Sept. 1.

Princeton Seminary, the first theological seminary founded by the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA), has a student body of more than 500 students in six degree programs. They come from 44 states in the union and from 25 countries around the world.

The Rev. Catherine Cook Davis has been promoted to associate dean of student life and director of student placement, also effective September 1, 2013.
