Some Polling Locations Have Changed for the Special Tuesday Senate Primary Election

The special primary election to fill Frank Lautenberg’s U.S. Senate seat will be held tomorrow, Aug. 13. The polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

In the Democratic primary race,  U.S. Rep. Rush Holt will face Newark Mayor Cory Booker, U.S.
Rep. Frank Pallone, and Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver. Holt, a resident of Hopewell, has served in Congress for 14 years. He announced on his Facebook page today that he will appear on the Colbert Report tonight at 11:30.

In the Republican primary race, Steve Lonegan will face Alieta Eck.

Gov. Chris Christie decided to hold a special election this year to fill the Senate seat that became vacant when Lautenberg died. The October 16 special election will occur just 20 days before the regularly scheduled November 5 election in which Christie will be running for reelection against Sen. Barbara Buono (D-Middlesex). The two special elections will cost the state an additional $23.8 million, according to the nonpartisan Office of Legislative Services.
