Booker Wins Democratic Primary by a Landslide

Cory Booker beat his nearest rival by a margin of almost three to one in the special primary election for Frank Lautenberg’s U.S. Senate seat yesterday.

Booker had 207,891 votes, while Frank Pallone has 69,311 votes. Rush Holt had 59,922 votes, while Shelia Oliver came in last place with 14,996 votes.

Booker swept every county but two. Holt was able to capture his home county of Mercer as well as Hunterdon County.

In Princeton, Holt defeated Booker by a margin of almost four to one. He had 2,214 votes, while Booker had 627 votes. Oliver had 15 votes and Pallone had 59 votes.

In the Republican primary, Steve Lonegan beat Alieta Eck by a margin of almost 4 to one. Lonegan had 102,481 votes, while Eck had 27,246 votes. In Princeton Lonegan received 46 votes while Eck had 63 votes.

Booker and Lonegan will face off  Oct. 16. The special election will occur just 20 days before the regularly scheduled November 5 election in which Christie will be running for reelection against Sen. Barbara Buono (D-Middlesex).

  1. It is so unfair to Congressman Holt. He only lost because his lawn signs were unfairly trashed. Such a travesty.
